According to Lowe’s:

LowesThere are some tools that are just too essential for anyone or any home to do without. Some of these tools are obvious, like a hammer, others are tools that you don’t really think of until the first time you need them. Of course, “the first time you need them” is often late at night or right before a big function, when you don’t have time to run out and get the tool you need. Make sure you have the basics covered with our DIY beginner’s toolbox.

What do they recommend?  Look just after the jump.

Lowe’s recommends:

  • a drill/driver
  • a corded drill
  • a circular saw
  • a wet/dry vac
  • a rotary tool (read: Dremel)
  • a jig saw
  • a power sander
  • safety glasses
  • hearing protection
  • a dust mask
  • gloves
  • a hammer
  • a tool belt
  • a couple of nail sets
  • a pry bar
  • screwdrivers
  • a tape measure
  • a level
  • a combination square
  • combination wrenches
  • a hack saw
  • a stud finder (see our recent “Cheap Stud Finders” post)
  • a toolbox
  • pliers
  • a power stapler
  • and a glue gun

We might add a couple of files, a putty knife, hex keys, and a pair of Vise-Grips, but all in all it seems like not too bad a start.
